Principal
Ursula Hudson began teaching in 1993. She holds a Bachelor's degree from Nicholls State University and a Master's +30 from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Ursula is certified in elementary education, gifted education, and administration. She has taught grades second through fifth during her twelve years of experience. The majority of her teaching career was spent in the Lafayette Parish Gifted Program. Last school year, she taught 4th grade at LLS. This year she will serve as Principal and the 4th-6th grade Language Arts Teacher.
Office Manager
Donna graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. She worked for 10 years as a Crisis Counselor and seven years as Social Service Director in a Nursing Home. Prior to becoming the Office Manager in 2008, Donna served as a Substitute Teacher and as a Teacher's Assistant here at LLS for three years.
Donna is married to Amir and they have one son, Nicholas, currently in 5th grade at LLS. They share their home and lives with two dogs and two cats. They enjoy traveling, learning about different cultures, going to art galleries and museums, reading and playing.
Pre-Kindergarten
Miss Hope graduated from The University of Louisiana Lafayette with a degree in Public Relations in 2005 and is currently completing her Pre-K-3rd grade certification at UL. She has worked as a teacher assistant at Legacy Preparatory Academy in Salt Lake City, UT, and as a teacher assistant at Prairie Elementary in Lafayette. She enjoys spending her free time with her boyfriend, family, friends, and Cocker Spaniel named Lucy.
Kindergarten
Christina graduated in 2006 from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing. She is currently completing her PreK-3rd certification through the Louisiana Resource Center for Educators in Baton Rouge, LA. She has enjoyed tutoring students on the side for the past few years.
She is married to her high school sweetheart Philip, and they have a baby boy, Zachary. Some of the things she enjoys in her spare time include spending time with her family, cooking, feeding the ducks at the park, and traveling.
First Grade
Ms Kendra graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2008 in Early Childhood Education. This is her second year at LLS and she is enjoying every minute!
In addition to teaching, she leads a portion of the Children's Ministry at her church. She has two boys, one of which attends our school.
She says, "It is my goal to make your child's first grade year a memorable one!"
Second Grade
Mrs. Debbie taught fourth grade for 33 years at Maurice Elementary. She has a B.A. and an M.Ed in Elementary Education. She is also a certified Reading Specialist and has a certification in Supervision of Student Teachers. Mrs. Debbie retired from the public school system in 2006. In the three years since her retirement she has substituted in many schools and has taught at South Louisiana Community College.
Mrs. Debbie has been married to her husband Paul for 36 years. She is the mother of two children, Faith Roy, who is married to Bryan Roy, and a son, Tyler. Debbie is currently serving as Vice President of the Vermilion Parish Retired Teacher Association. She is also chairman of the Maurice Historical Preservation Society. Her hobbies include cooking, traveling, historical preservation, antiquing, flower gardening, and interior decorating. She is a member of East Bayou Baptist Church.
Third Grade
Mrs. Jeannie graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1997 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She began her career with LLS in 2002. She has taught first through fourth grade classes in the eight years that she has been teaching at LLS.
She has been a member of First Lutheran Church since birth and is married to Craig Brister. She and Craig have two daughters, Katie and Jeanne who currently attend LLS. Jeannie has taught Sunday Church School at First Lutheran Church (1st-3rd grades) along with her mother and sister.
Language Arts: 4th-6th Grade
Ursula will wear two hats this year as our Principal and Language Arts teacher for fourth through sixth grade. Prior to joining the LLS faculty, Ursula served on the LLS PTO Board for two years. Her daughters, Olivia and Valerie, both attend LLS. Ursula is married to Curtis Hudson. She and her family attend First Baptist Church in Lafayette. Painting, reading, gardening, watching football, and traveling are some of her favorite hobbies.
Math, Science, & Social Studies: 4th-6th
Sue was born in Marksville, LA. She graduated from LSU with a B.S. in education. She moved to New Orleans where she taught school for several years and also met her husband. After her three children were born the family moved to Eagle River, Alaska where she taught junior high. When her older children were ready to leave home to attend college, Sue and her family moved to Durango, CO where she was a Pre-K teacher and Assistant Director of a large pre-school.
Sue and her husband decided to make another move back to Louisiana to be close to family they haven't seen in 20 years. She enjoys being back and is thrilled to be a part of Lafayette Lutheran School.
Teaching Assistant
Pat was an army brat and traveled a great deal before settling in Lafayette. She was married for 38 years before her husband became ill and passed away from cancer.
Ms. Pat started her career as a nurse but decided she wanted a change. She obtained an Associate degree in early childhood development and opened a daycare. She was then offered a Pre-K teacher position with Lafayette Children's School. She taught there for 12 years. She also worked as an aid for an autistic child for 10 years. She tried to retire but found she missed working with children too much. She is excited about working as the teacher assistant but also as the musical director and "librarian".
In her spare time she loves spending time with her 9 grandchildren ranging in age of 19 years to 14 months. She says, "God knew what he was doing when he created grandchildren. They are such a joy."
