What grades are taught at LLS?
We serve Pre-K4 through 5th grade.
Is LLS an accredited school?
We are state-approved by the Louisiana State Department of Education.
What type of curriculum is taught at LLS?
Lafayette Lutheran School strives to provide a quality education through small class sizes in a safe, Christian environment. Our maximum class size is 15:1. These small classes afford our teachers the freedom to follow the best educational practices. We provide a stimulating, challenging curriculum that allows students to develop their abilities to the fullest. We aim to educate the whole child, keeping individual learning styles in mind. Our approach provides a variety of experiences and opportunities for our students.
The LLS curriculum includes core courses in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Hands-on strategies are utilized, and activities that are developmentally appropriate are provided. The educational experience is enhanced through the use of the Accelerated Reader Program, computer technology, a school library, and enrichment opportunities in foreign language, music, and art. Our curriculum provides for the acquisition of basic and higher-level thinking skills which lay the foundation needed for future academic success.
The teaching of Christian values is part of the educational experience at LLS. Bible lessons are taught daily. Students attend chapel once a week under the direction of the First Lutheran Church Pastor.
Are LLS teachers certified?
All LLS teachers hold certificates or licenses issued by the Louisiana State Department of Education.
How many students per class?
The maximum student-teacher ratio is 15:1.
What extracurricular activities are offered at LLS?
We currently offer music and French through the generosity of volunteers.
Do you offer special education programs for students with learning disabilities?
LLS does not provide special programs for students with learning disabilities. We do not have teachers certified in this area at this time. However, the Lafayette Parish School System currently provides a Speech and Language Pathologist that is available to work weekly with students who qualify for speech services by meeting LPSS criteria.
Is Religion taught?
Bible is taught daily by our teachers in their classrooms. Christian morals and values are discussed. Students attend chapel on Fridays under the direction of the First Lutheran Church Pastor, where students receive a biblical message and sing Christian songs.
Does LLS offer the Accelerated Reader Program?
Star Reader and Accelerated Reader programs are available in 1st-5th grade.
How often are report cards sent home?
Report cards are sent home every six weeks.
What are the school hours for students?
7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Students must be picked up by 2:30 p.m.
Does LLS offer bus service?
There is no bus service at this time.
Does LLS offer after school care?
The extended care program is provided by Sugar 'n Spice Vacation Station. The hours of operation are Monday-Friday 2:15-6:00 pm. There is a separate fee that must be paid directly to Sugar 'n Spice for this service.
Does LLS serve lunch?
We do not serve lunch at this time. Students are required to bring their own lunches.
What is the student dress code?
Students must wear a red polo top with a navy uniform bottom. Bottoms may be long pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, or jumpers. A navy, black, or brown belt must be worn with bottoms that have belt loops. Socks or tights must be red, white, or navy. Shoes must be closed toe and heel and appropriate for physical activity. A solid red, white, or navy undershirt or turtleneck may be worn underneath a polo top on cold days. Any color jacket or sweater may be worn.
Where can I purchase uniforms?
Uniforms can be purchased at any store that handles school uniforms, such as Academy, Target, Walmart, or any other store that specializes in school uniforms.
