Kindergarten
The kindergarten program presents opportunities for children to enjoy learning, complete tasks successfully, and become aware of the world around them. Specific areas include:
Language Arts
Speaking, listening, reading readiness, writing skills. Activities will be utilized which are designed to foster each child's development according to needs in all these areas.
Mathmatics
Concepts and activities that will promote understanding and use of problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Items and replicas of places such as stores, kitchens, schools, and living rooms will be utilized.
Social Studies
Activities that will encourage children to become self-reliant, contributing members of their family, class, and community. This includes teaching children responsibility and the need for making careful choices as well as developing a respect for themselves and others.
Science
Concepts and activities that will stimulate children's natural curiosity to explore and discover the world around them. This will include a variety of hands-on activities and working with plants and animals and inanimate objects such as rocks.
Music
Experiences with different types of music, songs, instruments, and movement. Activities that will enhance the love of music and stimulate children's unique responses to sound, rhythm, and tempo, and assist in the development of auditory discrimination will be used.
Art
Activities that will allow the child to communicate by using color, texture, shape and line in response to a variety of stimuli. Art activities that help children develop their large and small muscles through many different types of materials will be provided.
Christian Doctrine
At every opportunity the program will include the value system of the Lutheran Christian doctrine, and any formal learning will be under the direction of the First Lutheran Church pastor.
